Fun Thanksgiving Games for Youngsters
A Thanksgiving theme party is a great time to put a new twist on favorite games that are reliably fun but affordable to. These Thanksgiving party games can be done for minimal cost and effort, or free with things that are commonly found right in your home. For example, instead of playing musical chairs, play The Pilgrim Boogie. Take a tape player or CD player with some fun boogie music for the kids to walk/dance around to. Tape spots down on the floor (maybe in the shape of pumpkins, turkeys, or fall leaves) and then one spot that’s a pilgrim's hat. There should be one less spot than there are children at the parties. Select a “leader” to start the game. The leader is responsible for playing the music and deciding when it will stop. Kids will move around the circle stepping from spot to spot during the time the music plays. When the music stops, the child standing on the hat becomes “out” and is the next leader. Continue playing until most children have a chance to be the leader.
Scavenger hunts are also a lot of fun for Thanksgiving party guests - young or old, this one is called Turkeys and Pumpkins. Before the guests arrive, create 15-20 turkeys and 15-20 pumpkins out of construction paper (or on the computer) and hide the paper turkeys and pumpkins throughout the party area. Divide the guests into two teams and assign them a search target. See which team can find the most pumpkins or turkeys within the allotted time. That team wins. If this seems to easy for the age of your party guests, make it harder by turning out the lights and give each team one flashlight. Try to incorporate your Thanksgiving party supplies in the scavanger hunt. Then, have the guests search for their items using only the light of that flashlight. Feel free to make the search items out of other materials besides paper if you have the time and budget.
